Entities, Spirits, and Why I Prefer Direct Energy Work
If you spend any time in occult communities, you will eventually hear people talk about working with entities: demons, spirits, gods, ancestral beings, and everything in between. It is one of the most debated topics in magic, and also one of the most misunderstood. I want to share what I have learned from twenty years of practice, including what my grandmother taught me.
Entities are real, but not the way most people imagine
When people hear "entity," they usually picture something from a horror movie: a shadowy figure in the corner of a room, a voice whispering commands, a demonic presence waiting to possess someone. That is not how it works.
Many entities were created by practitioners over centuries. When large numbers of people direct concentrated energy and intention toward the same concept or figure for long enough, that energy takes on a kind of independent existence. It develops patterns, tendencies, something that resembles personality. Many beings that traditions call "gods" likely originated this way. They are real, but they are not what most people think they are.
Other entities exist on different planes entirely, having developed independently from human activity. These are harder to categorize and harder to understand, because our frameworks for thinking about consciousness are based on human experience.
Why people work with entities
The appeal is straightforward. An entity that has accumulated centuries of concentrated energy can, in theory, add that power to your work. Instead of relying solely on your own ability to gather and direct energy, you are partnering with something that carries far more of it. For certain types of work, especially very large or complex intentions, this can make a real difference.
Some practitioners also develop genuine relationships with specific entities over time. These relationships can be a source of guidance, insight, and power that goes beyond what solo practice offers. My grandmother had her own connections of this kind, though she rarely spoke about them directly.
Why I mostly avoid it
Entities have their own agendas. This is the part that people underestimate. When you invite an entity into your work, you are not hiring an employee. You are entering a relationship with something that has its own interests, its own patterns, and its own idea of what the exchange should look like. They almost always want something in return. Sometimes it is offerings, sometimes attention, sometimes something harder to define.
These relationships, once started, are not always easy to end. And if you do not fully understand what you are dealing with, you can create problems that are far worse than whatever you were trying to solve in the first place. I have seen this happen to people who jumped into entity work without enough experience, and it is not pleasant to watch.
For the vast majority of situations my clients bring to me, direct energy work is simpler, safer, and just as effective. I stay in full control. There are no debts, no obligations, no complications. The energy comes from me, directed with precision at a clear intention. Twenty years of practice gives me more than enough power to handle what needs to be done.
If you are drawn to entity work
I am not telling you to never explore it. Many serious practitioners do, and some do it very well. But if you are considering it, go slowly. Research thoroughly. Talk to people who have real experience, not people who learned everything from TikTok. Understand that this is an area where carelessness has real consequences.
And if you are coming to it because you think your own energy is not enough, consider this: most people have far more energetic potential than they realize. A skilled practitioner working with direct energy can accomplish things that would surprise you. You do not always need to call on something else. Sometimes the power you need is already there.
